Oliver’s Real Food Racing fully support the decision made overnight by our sports international governing body the Union Cycliste Internationale to suspend all classifications for all events on the UCI international calendar due to the COVID-19 novel coronavirus.
With the world facing an unprecedented and constantly evolving situation, and on the advice of the Australian Government Oliver’s Real Food Racing has made the decision to withdraw from all international competition until April 30th 2020.
The team extends it’s sincerest apologies to the executive committee of the Tour de Tochigi for the late notice of our withdrawal from their event.
We have a duty of care for not only our riders, but also their families, friends and communities. With the constant new developments in regard to COVID-19 and subsequent government imposed border controls, team management deems this to be the only appropriate course of action.
Sport is a huge part of Australian society, and whilst the recent postponement and cancellation of cycling events to coincide with advice from the Australian Government to cancel mass gatherings of 500 or more is frustrating, has financial impacts and other consequences: We call upon all members of all sporting communities across our nation to now apply our strong culture of teamwork and camaraderie to this unprecedented health situation. Do your part to help flatten the curve. Avoid panic hoarding so those in need still have access to basic household items, and practice good personal hygiene.
Team management will continue to monitor the situation of domestic competition, and review travel to International events when government advice changes.
